My Amends to Twilight Readers (Recommendations)

I was at my favorite local bookstore today, Apple Blossom Books, and I asked for the expertise of the lady running the store. I explained to her that at least half of my female high school students are reading the Twilight series as part of their independent reading. I also shared with her that many of you are rereading the series partly because you are unsure of what else to read. She reccomended the following.

Uglies, The Collector's Set: Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extrasby Scott Westerfeld and Rodrigo Corral (Paperback - Oct 23, 2007) .This arc of Scott Westerfeld's UGLIES trilogy follows the high-tech adventures of Tally Youngblood. As an ugly, then a pretty, and finally a special, Tally works to take down a society created to function with perfect-looking people who never have a chance to think for themselves.

Wicked Lovely(Paperback)by Melissa Marr

"A debut that reads like the work of a seasoned pro." -- Charles deLint"

“A modern-day fairy tale, wherein the girl saves herself. Many fantasy readers will find themselves happily at home here. -- BOCCB

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen (Paperback - April 29, 2004)

Apparently this Sense and Sensibility is one of Bella's favorites. You're likely more aware of movies based on Jane Austin's novels. If you've seen either of the following, you might also enjoy the books:
Pride and Prejudice and Emma.

The Host: A Novelby Stephenie Meyer (Hardcover - May 6, 2008)

Book recommended for obvious reasons...

Listen to Stephenie Meyer explain the book in her own words.

Lastly, a recommendation from my wife. She's a sucker for sappy stories and movies.

"Lori Wick writes beautiful love stories that have real struggles and triumphs. Her stories are placed in various time periods and locations. My favorites are the Kensington Chronicles, The Princess, and Sophie's Heart.

No relationship this side of heaven will be as magical as Disney portrays. Lori Wick reminds us that all strong relationships have a foundation in God's Word." - Mrs. Strusz

I hope you find these suggestions helpful. Thanks again to Apple Blossom Books and my wife for helping me compile this list.

I'm reluctant to admit this, but I spent 3 hours compiling this list, and that's not including the time I spent in the store.

The main problem is that it is very difficult to make blog posts with multiple pictures and long passages of text. Blogger just starts to go crazy.

I'm just wondering if it was worth it. Had you already heard of these books? Do these books interest you at all?

Would you rather move on to books that are completely different than Twilight?

Let me know.

1. I never knew that book store existed in oshkosh until I went there the other day with my grandma.

2. I will definitely look into those books when I get the time because they sound like ones I would like to read. Therefore, all your hard work wasn't completely wasted! ;]
