You're All Going Down

2011 Reading Challenge! This is my favorite unit of the year. I love to read, I love to share that love of reading with all of you, and I can't wait to see what fruitful results this year's challenge will yield.

My Goals:

I want to read at least 2 books of 400 pages in length. I sometimes avoid books of that length because I don't liked to get bogged down with a single book. If the book isn't a "page turner" it's easy to kill a month worth of reading on an epic length book.

I want to read at least 1 classic that I haven't read before. I'll perhaps grab one from the board area that none of you have touched.

I would like to read at least one book from the hunger g---s (this word is blocked on Baracuda) series. In the past, I avoided Twilight, and EVEN HARRY POTTER! This series seems rather interesting.

I also want to read a bestseller from a different country (translated). France, perhaps.

I started my reading challenge by finishing the last 100 pages of a book I had been reading before the challenge (I will not count this as one of my finished books). The book is called Spousonomics: Using Economics to Master Love, Marriage, and Dirty Dishes. I finally know how to master the dirty dishes.

I saw this book in the BookPage in my local library. The had this as their top pick for a nonfictoin V-day type book. It seemed like a cheesy concept at the outset. But I simply ate it up. They tackled just about any relationship problem you could think of having and applied an economics based solution to the problem.

The Bells: A NovelIt was a fun read and I actually learned a few economic principals that I didn't know before.

I taste-tested a new book, Something Missing: A Novel, by Matthew Dicks. It seemed like a pretty interesting novel about an OCD theif. He uses his OCD to be extra careful about not getting caught. I guess it didn't excite me all that much, so I returned it after the first chapter. I might try it again at a later date.

Speeking of giving books a second chance, I'm now reading a book called, The Bells: A Novel. Its a novel about a boy who grew up in a Belfry with a deaf mother who rang the bells constantly to the anoyance of the townspeople. Crazy things ensue. I'm only 40 pages in...that's all I got. The book is known for its use of onomatopoeia.

Total Time: 3 hours
