I was there as part of the monthly Oshkosh art-walk. Some UW-O professor was there with a presentation about a family who helps save people from Lake Winnebago.
Apple Blossom Books is cool enough to hold community events like this. That's what a bookstore should do. Anyone can buy books on Amazon, but building relationships with people at your community bookstore can be pretty cool. For those of you who like to read and are thinking about teaching, most bookstores have a teacher discount (including Barnes & Noble).

I finished The Bells: A Novel
this week. Great book! It's about a castrato (look it up) making the best of his life as a lonely musician. This is easily the best book I've read in a while. Music lovers would really love this book. It kind of reminded me of The Shadow of the Wind
.I also started reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
today. I began reading it while donating plasma - something I haven't done since school started. So far it's a great book. It's about a women who's cells are considered immortal (thus the title). Her rapidly growing cells are used all over the world and her family has barely seen a dime from it. Henrietta died 60 years ago! I can't wait to read more.For those of you pondering the title, I love to donate plasma because it gives me a peaceful hour to read, and I GET PAID FOR IT!
