Swamplandia ....bleh

I made it 90 some pages into Swamplandia! and I think I quit. It has been one of the best reviewed books of the year so far. Many sources name Karen Russel as one of America's most talented young writers. The subject matter was just depressing and dull to me. The characters were so painfully lonely, but not in the way that made me feel sympathetic to them. I didn't really like any of the characters - not even Ava. I may try reading it once more this summer if I get bored.

Yesterday, I started reading How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming.

Those of you who pay attention to the bulletin board in my classroom will remember that this was hanging in the Books I Can't Wait to Read section for a long time. I finally got a hold of a copy. It's written by the guy who essentially brought about the dethroning of Pluto as a planet. I'm learning a lot about the solar system so far. I'll likely finish it this week.
